The Gastrea virus quickly spreads as infected mutating hosts gain new powers and abilities while attacking, killing, and infecting anyone. Unable to fight a pandemic foe that transforms defenders into adversaries the remaining humans had retreated into cities surrounded by giant monoliths made of Varanium, a material that stops the Gastrea. Mankind’s last hope is the Cursed Children, infected young girls who retained their humanity. Paired with a human partner, they have the power to battle a Gastrea, but this power also makes them feared and shunned by most humans.
